Polly Pocket Gamified Website

Mattel wanted to launch a brand new version of Polly Pocket and needed a new website that felt aligned to Polly’s new style. I was Lead UX and Design for this project, working with my creative director to sketch a vision that would compel kids to return to the site over and over. In addition, there was a video area of the site that needed to work on desktop and mobile. Once the site design and direction was approved, the work to produce the site assets and animations was split up between a team of designers at our agency.

Pitching the vision

As with any agency project, we were under pressure to deliver a proposed vision for the polly site that would stand out against other agencies trying to win the work.

At Smashing Ideas, I was brought in for many early pitch phases because of my quicky sketching an ability to think outside the box.

For Polly, we thought why not give Polly her own mansion in “Polly world!” complete with all the coolest areas to visit and collect items!

We pitched Mattel on three areas where kids could play with items they have collected:

1 - rooftop garden

2- dress up

3 - bedroom decorator

All of the collectibles and progress would be tracked in a “tracker” (Polly’s version of an iPhone")

A platform-specific video watching experience

Mattel wanted a full-screen video player experience for pully when viewing on a device.

We crafted an M.site (Mobile only site) strategy for a different site for users that arrived VIA a tablet or phone.

The Results:

Polly pocket website was very successful! Once launched, we continued to add games to the site.
