Let's make something AWESOME together!

For over two decades, I’ve been fully immersed in creative work. My journey began at age 17 as a glassblower, working at Seattle Glassblowing Studio and later at William Akers Glass. I worked my way up from teacher to gaffer, eventually owning my own shop on Whidbey Island. I did that primarily for 10 years then pivoted to to focus on illustration, animation, graphic design, UX design, and most recently, wood and ceramics. I've even produced custom tables for an ice cream shop (Vashon Creamery)

My personal style draws inspiration from 60’s/70’s cartoons, retro colors, and classic media. I’m drawn to bold lines, playful characters, vivid color pops, and crisp precision. My work often includes puns, playful "winks," and visual wordplay to bring joy and humor to viewers. I’ve created zines and music art, contributed to WFMU, a New York freeform radio station, and have showcased my work at Urban Craft Uprising, Art Attack, and other craft fairs and community events.

Recently, I’ve been focusing on wood and ceramics. I create hyper-detailed woodcut art and hand-carve cartoon characters into wall pieces using jigsaws and carving tools. My ceramic work includes "ugly jug" pots inspired by cartoon characters, blending humor with traditional craftsmanship. There’s something deeply satisfying about turning raw wood and clay into playful, character-driven works that feel alive. I’m also exploring toy making, with the guidance of friends and mentors, to create collectible toys based on my original characters. This process of tactile, character-driven design is something I’m eager to develop further.

I’ve also produced art for band posters, single art, and animated shorts. I’ve collaborated on music videos, prop design, and graphics for the band Bread and Butter, Danny Newcomb, Low Hums, and others. I’ve sold at Urban Craft Uprising, Art Attack, and Renegade Craft Fair, and Georgetown Carnival, where I’ve sold prints, zines, and hand-sewn toys of my original characters, woodcuts, and ceramics. Additionally, I’ve showcased my work in multiple solo art shows, featuring both sculptures and illustrations.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve built a career in tech as a game and UX designer. I specialize in playful, educational, and interactive experiences for kids, helping them learn to read and improve math skills. I have a huge passion for kids content, and have been working on some Kids book art that I hope it will make it to the world soon. I’m have also taught young kids to make art, and have spoken at multiple design events related to accessability and neurodiversity.

In the UX and product design space, I’m an industry veteran with 20-something years creating compelling and high-quality experiences for mobile games, apps, websites, and digitally connected devices. Over the years, I have created award-winning and innovative experiences for some of the biggest brand names in the industry, including Geocaching, Nickelodeon, Disney, Nick Jr, Mattel, Microsoft, Scopely,  PBS Kids, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Penguin Random House, Phillips, and Team Coco. I leverage this experience to introduce motivational & game design principles into everything I do. I'm a full-stack UX designer with a passion for creating FUN, engaging, and motivational experiences that stick!  I am especially experienced in the ed-tech industry, Kids’ entertainment,  mobile gaming, and gamified reward systems.

I also ride motorcycles, juggle pins, play music with my sister in our band: Make Waste!

Testimonials

“Devi is a true visionary who is both innovative and methodologically rigorous (a rare combo!)

I called Devi our "Mary Poppins" because she sprinkles a little magic wherever she goes, leaving every person, team, and project better than she found it.

During her time at Freckle, she successfully advocated for new tools and processes to make us leaner and faster, always advocated for the needs of the end-user, and was always a joy to work with.”

-Lindsay Reno, Product Manager at Freckle

“Devi was one of the people we would “fight” over when we were resourcing projects. She was always in high demand and at the top of the list. Incredibly prolific, her portfolio reflects the quality inherent in her work. With a consistently positive attitude, she would find unique, clever and efficient ways to solve daunting problems. Brainstorming sessions with Devi were productive and pleasurable—she’s incredibly creative, but almost just as important, she is an egoless collaborator. It was almost effortless to act as Devi’s direct report. She eagerly absorbed new skills and abilities, which made her one of the most versatile talents the studio ever had.”

-Adam Michel, Creative Director at Smashing Ideas

“Devi is one of the most passionate and productive designers I know! I had the great fortune of being her design partner at Freckle. While building product features to help students learn math and reading skills, I found myself learning so much from Devi!

She taught me lean approaches for conducting discovery and iterating on designs. She developed practical tools to help our team move quickly toward user-centered solutions. Devi is an amazing collaborator and problem solver. In brainstorms and critiques, she always had thoughtful input and creative ideas to share. And she has an incredible ability to organize and facilitate workshops that are both engaging and productive.

Devi is the kind of designer who has a positive, lasting impact on any team she joins!”

-Amanda Richardson, UX Designer at Freckle

Devi is proof that unicorns are real! (Devi might even be a zebra-unicorn). She enthusiastically seeks out, tackles and masters multiple aspects of experience design. Visual design and illustration - no problem. New technology - no sweat. Motion design - bring it. And, all while being a positive, self-motivated powerhouse who ups the energy level for those around her. I look forward to working together again soon”
